For 2009, as in recent years, nominations will NOT be accepted for this category. The judges will select the Energy Company of the Year from among the finalists in all other categories, or from among finalists proposed and accepted by the judges themselves.
Continuing rapid convergence of all parts of the energy industry has created a new breed of player: companies that are fast-moving, adaptive, and concerned with the provision, production, logistics, and trading of the energy complex as a whole. These players no longer think of themselves as participants in "the oil industry," "the power sector," "the natural gas complex," or "the renewables arena." These businesses are energy companies in the truest sense of the word, and they are usually global players.
In selecting the Energy Company of the Year, the judges are looking for all-around excellence in executing a total energy strategy. The range and extent of a company's activities-its diversity, scope, technological innovation, and environmental concern-are pivotal factors, as are the traditional values of care for the consumer and efficiency. The Energy Company of the Year must be exactly that-the unquestioned leader of the industry.
Judges will consider performance and achievements since January 2008.
