Introduced in 2009, the Infrastructure Project award recognizes significant achievement in bringing a much-needed, high-profile energy project online in a timely manner.
In an environment of growing tension between the need for new energy delivery systems and increasingly organized and sophisticated opposition to such construction, project sponsors have to employ significant resources, ingenuity and persistence to get the job done.
Gas pipelines, natural gas storage, liquefied natural gas terminals, conventional power transmission lines, smart grid facilities, hydro or tidal power facilities are among the projects that will be considered.
Judges will look for a project sponsor that recognized a critical need or opportunity, quickly moved to propose and finance new facilities, dealt with special or daunting political, regulatory, technological and/or landowner issues before and during construction and brought the project online in a timely fashion.
Judges will consider performance and achievement over a period of time culminating in a 2009 in-service date for a new energy infrastructure project.
